The
Friends of St. Paul is composed of Catholic men and women who desire to live a
way of belonging to the Congregation of St. Paul of Chartres. They wish to share
the spirit of this Congregation and to participate in its mission in response to
the call of the Church:
Through
this Holy Synod, the Lord himself renews his invitation to all the laity to come
closer to him every day, and recognizing that what is his is also their
own(Phil2:5), to associate themselves with him in his saving mission.
Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity, No. 33
The Friends of St. Paul is in close communion with the
Congregation of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres. This communion is
manifested through prayer, fraternal encounters and participation in the mission
of the Church.
Ultimate aim of the Friends of St. Paul:
We come to a full sense of the dignity of the lay faithful if we consider the
prime and fundamental vocation that the Father assigns to each of them in Jesus
Christ through the Holy Spirit: the vocation to holiness, that is, the
perfection of charity... it is ever more urgent that today all Christians take
up again the way of gospel renewal, welcoming in a spirit of generosity the
invitation expressed by the apostle Peter "to be holy in all conduct."(1
Pet.1:15)
Life according to the Spirit, whose fruit is holiness (Rom 6:22, Gal.5:22),
stirs up every baptized person and requires each to follow and imitate Jesus
Christ, in embracing the Beatitudes, listening and meditating on the Word of
God, in conscious and active participation in the liturgical and
sacramental life of the

Church, in personal prayer, in
family or in community, in the hunger and thirst for justice, in the
practice of the commandment of love in all circumstance of life and
service to the brethren, especially the least, the poor and the
suffering. (C.L. No.16)
To help those who desire to be more seriously committed to journey on
the path to holiness and to persevere in fidelity the Sisters of St.Paul
of Chartres share with joy the riches of their spirituality:
* Evangelical spirituality of poverty and simplicity as lived from the
beginnings of the Congregation
* Christocentric and paschal spirituality rooted in the epistles of
St. Paul their Patron
In communion with the Congregation by which they are spiritually
supported, Friends of St. Paul commit themselves to the mission of the
Church by being at the service of their brothers and sisters,
recognizing "in each one of them the person of our Lord Jesus Christ."
(Book of Life No.6)
Friends of St. Paul bind themselves by a
promise that is renewable each year. The Commitment with the
Congregation of Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres is essentially spiritual
without any legal, canonical or financial obligation.
